Essential travel Information

For UK and European Union passport holders planning a visit to Trinidad & Tobago.

Whether you are traveling for a short holiday, a long-term villa stay, or a wellness retreat, ensuring your documents and health requirements are in order is the first step toward a seamless journey. Here is everything you need to know before you fly.

Visa Requirements: UK & EU Passport Holders

For standard tourism and short-term visits, entry requirements for UK and European citizens are straightforward and hassle-free.

UK Passport Holders

  • Visa Required? No. British citizens do not need a visa to enter Trinidad & Tobago for tourist visits.
  • Allowed Stay: Typically granted up to 90 days upon arrival.
  • Extensions: If you wish to extend your stay (Slow Travel), you must apply for an extension through the Immigration Division in Port of Spain or Scarborough (Tobago) before your initial stay expires.

EU / EEA Passport Holders

  • Visa Required? No. Citizens of European Union member states (alongside Schengen area countries) do not require a visa for short-term tourism.
  • Allowed Stay: Under the EU–Trinidad & Tobago short-stay visa waiver agreement, EU citizens can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Mandatory Entry Documents for All Travelers

Regardless of whether you are arriving from London, Paris, or Milan, you must present the following at immigration:

  1. Valid Passport: Must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of arrival, with at least one blank page for stamps.
  2. Return or Onward Ticket: Proof of departure from Trinidad & Tobago (airline booking confirmation).
  3. Accommodation Proof: Address details of your booked villa, hotel, or eco-lodge.
  4. Sufficient Funds: Proof of adequate financial means for the duration of your stay.

Vaccination & Health Requirements

Yellow Fever (Crucial Requirement)

  • Standard Travelers from UK/EU: A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is NOT required if you are flying directly from Europe or the UK.
  • High-Risk Transit / Country Entry: A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate IS MANDATORY if you are arriving from or have transited (for more than 12 hours) through a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission (e.g., certain countries in South America or Sub-Saharan Africa).

Recommended Routine Vaccinations

While no mandatory vaccinations are enforced for direct flights from Europe, international health authorities (WHO and CDC) recommend ensuring your routine immunizations are up to date:

  • Hepatitis A & Typhoid: Recommended for travelers visiting smaller villages, remote eco-lodges, or enjoying local street food experiences.
  • Tetanus / Diphtheria: Standard routine booster as a precaution for outdoor activities.

Mosquito-Borne Illness Prevention

Like most tropical and Caribbean destinations, Trinidad & Tobago has active mosquito populations in lush or humid regions.

  • Precautions: Bring a high-quality DEET or Picaridin-based insect repellent, wear lightweight long clothing during dusk/dawn, and choose accommodations with air conditioning or mosquito netting (standard in high-end villas and eco-resorts).

Smart Travel Tips

  • Immigration Forms: Complete any online or paper arrival card provided by your airline prior to landing at Port of Spain (POS) or ANR Robinson International Airport (TAB).
  • Travel Insurance: We strongly recommend comprehensive travel and medical insurance that covers emergency medical evacuation, flight cancellations, and luggage protection.
